Matthew Menard
Matthew Menard is a bass, composer, and music educator based in Ottawa. He teaches voice, music theory, composition, piano, and flute to students of all ages and levels, in English or French.
Matthew nurtures whatever musical passion and ambition a student brings and helps them reach their goal, whatever it may be. Lessons move at the student's pace. The first step is always making sure the student is comfortable. From there, the work turns to vocal technique and repertoire choices.
A graduate of the University of Ottawa, Matthew studied voice principally with Brett Polegato and conducting principally with Jamie Loback. He is Composer-in-Residence at St. Joseph's Parish, and his music has been performed by the Capital Chamber Choir, the Ontario Youth Choir, the York University Chamber Choir, and the Ottawa Bach Choir. His Exaudi nos was featured in every performance of the Capital Chamber Choir's spring 2026 Podium tour in British Columbia.
Matthew sings as a chorister and soloist with the Capital Chamber Choir, the Ewashko Singers, and the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir, where he is also a mentor and assistant conductor. A former City of Ottawa aquatics instructor, he has taught students from early childhood to adulthood.
Outside of music, Matthew is a former dancer and figure skater, and an avid beatboxer.
