Emma Dunbar
“For me, teaching is such a privilege, as it is an opportunity to introduce students of all ages to the beauty of music and the fascinating process of learning.”
Hello! My name is Emma Dunbar, and I teach piano, violin, viola, fiddle and theory. With almost a decade of teaching experience, I have taught all ages, beginners through to RCM level 10. Consequently, I am very comfortable preparing students for recitals, festivals, auditions, exams or just helping them have fun. To keep lessons fun and rewarding, my teaching style is flexible, taking into account the interests and personality of each student. For more advanced students, I am passionate about helping them refine technical skills and develop excellent musicianship while still enjoying the creative process.
I believe in making learning an instrument as simple and fun as possible. This way a student can develop a strong technical foundation that allows them to confidently play songs they enjoy. To foster a love of music, I introduce students to a variety of different music such as: classical, pop, anime, jazz, hymns, worship music, chording, and fiddle.
My certifications include an ARCT in Piano Performance and Theory, Suzuki Pedagogy Training, Bachelors of Music, and a Diploma in Chamber Music. I am also an active musician continuing my Master of Music at uOttawa and playing in the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra. In my free time, I enjoy reading, going on walks and doing free improv!
