All about the Guitar – for students interested in studying guitar Rob MacSpurren teaches technique, guitar fundamentals, fret board knowledge and music reading.
Students can choose to follow the Canadian Conservatory Contemporary Idioms with various grade levels and exams using a blues/jazz/rock or Royal Conservatory Classical method with various grade levels and exams. Both are accredited methods.
These courses are recommended for students interested in playing guitar in school bands, Alcorn Music Studios jam bands and pursuing guitar in University. Rob’s students who have taken the examinations have all received high honours and top scores.
Pop/Rock Basics – for students interested in learning how to strum their favourite tunes. He will teach common chords, power chords and strumming patterns starting with songs from Pink Floyd, Green Day and others to get you started.
Rob’s musical training and teaching experience have made him a versatile teacher who encourages his students to find their own voice.
You can be assured that every student working with Rob will be learning the music fundamentals, of reading, technique, chord structure, ear training along with their favourite style of music. His students are also encouraged to write and perform their own music.
Rob’s level of accomplishment on his instrument and in various musical genres means he can explain and demonstrate a wide variety of musical styles.
Rob graduated Magna Cum Laude and holds a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Ottawa with a specialization in guitar ensemble, orchestration, jazz arranging and composition. Rob also specialized in pedagogy, performance, and music business at the Cambrian College of Applied Arts & Technology where he graduated with Honours with Distinction.
Rob has performed at the National Arts Center and his compositions have premiered at the Composer Concert held at the University of Ottawa.
